Nike Covert 2.0 Driver

What does Nike bring to the table in 2014?

PRICE: £199

WE TESTED: 9.5°, 10.5° with Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage 50 graphite shaft.

KEY TECHNOLOGIES: A 7 percent larger hitting area produces faster ball speed across more of the face. A higher MOI than the original Covert means added forgiveness. One head offers lofts from 8.5° to 12.5°, and neutral, left or right face-angle adjustment.

DISTANCE:The VR_S Covert 2.0 is a good combination of carry and roll that's on the longer side of drivers tested.

ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Testers find it to be one of the most accurate, consistent models; lots of fairways to be found with this one.

FEEL: The club delivers a soft, cushioned feel and sound at impact, like a low-pitched thud; clubhead feels stable throughout the swing despite the aggressive kicking action in the Kuro Kage shaft.

PLAYABILITY: A versatile driver with so many settings that virtually everyone can be fit for it; some guys find it rather easy to move the ball both ways; several testers applaud the moderately high but still penetrating flight.

LOOK: The club's colorful styling is anything but bland and boring; white grip contrasts nicely with the red head and black shaft.

BOTTOM LINE: A strong performer. The look and feel make it a polarizing choice.

HOT STIX'S TAKE: Launch - Low; Spin - Low
